Established in Paris in 1880, at the heart of the Belle Époque, Drouant restaurant transformed into a true meeting place, aligning with this period of great intellectual and artistic creativity, from painting to music and, of course, literature.

In 1920, marked by the end of the war, Paris had not lost its art of entertainment. National identity was asserting itself, and France established itself as a gastronomic nation by promoting local products and the pleasure of dining out. It was in this context of emulation that the Goncourt and Renaudot Academies, in 1914 and 1926 respectively, chose Drouant as the venue for their deliberations, making this historic Parisian restaurant an indispensable player in French literary life.

The Goncourt Prize

Drouant, a temple of deliberations since 1914

An emblematic venue in French literary life, Drouant has hosted the deliberations of the Académie Goncourt and the proclamation of the prestigious Prix Goncourt since 1914. In the secrecy of its historic salon, jurors gather monthly for lunch to debate and select the work that will define the literary year. This century-old tradition places Drouant at the heart of French cultural heritage, making the restaurant much more than a gastronomic address: a true witness to literary history and excellence.
